Review a promo code and its usage

Use the promo-code list to inspect a campaign's configuration and recorded use. Keep its activation count separate from paid purchases and unique readers.

1. Find the campaign

Confirm the intended publication in the Admin header and open Promo Codes. Use the Title or Code filters to narrow the list; filter changes update the results.

Compare the row's #, Title, Discount and Code with the intended campaign. For the fictional City Journal example, look for City Journal November, CJNOV20 and 20%.

2. Read the saved configuration

Open the row's # link to inspect its form. Check:

  • Discount Type and Discount.
  • Both Availability dates.
  • Activations limit and Unlimited.
  • The exact subscription under its Plan, plus Available for all plans.
  • The other purchase selections and their all-item checkboxes.

You can read the saved values without changing or saving them. Use Understand discount eligibility and limits when a condition is unclear.

3. Open recorded usage

The list's Uses value counts recorded activations for that promo. A positive number links to Promo code usage info; zero is shown without that link.

The usage page lists reader information and any transaction details its lookup supplies:

ColumnWhat it represents
#, Full name, EmailThe listed reader's identity. Full name links to the reader record.
Transaction IDA linked transaction when supplied; otherwise a dash.
Used atThe supplied transaction's creation date, not a separate activation timestamp.
Purchase nameThe supplied transaction item's name; subscription details can include its Plan.
AmountThe supplied transaction item's recorded price and currency.
Discounted amountIts recorded subscription/item subtotal and currency.

These values are recorded item amounts, not proof of settled payment or a full invoice total. A dash means the detail was not supplied to this row. The display's transaction lookup is separate from the activation list, so do not use it as an exact reconciliation of every activation to a payment.

Show only completed signups filters for purchases linked to transactions recorded as succeeded. Despite the label, it is a purchase-status filter, not a count of new reader registrations. It does not turn the Uses counter into a paid-purchase total or guarantee the displayed transaction details are the matching successful purchase.

What a recorded use proves

An activation records use of the code in a purchase-preparation path. It can be recorded before provider success. A reader may appear more than once; Uses is not a unique-reader count.

Passing code validation, seeing an activation, seeing a promo attached to a purchase and having a successful payment are separate observations. Check payment status in the appropriate transaction workflow when payment confirmation is needed. Read a reader's membership helps you inspect the reader's membership separately.

If the code appears unavailable

Compare the saved campaign with the intended purchase:

  • Are the publication and code correct?
  • Is the current time within the configured availability window?
  • Has the recorded activation count reached the positive limit?
  • Is the intended subscription included, or is the applicable all-plans choice enabled?
  • Can this reader purchase the selected subscription, given existing ownership and any once-only restriction?

A code can pass validation while leaving an unrelated subscription undiscounted. Share the saved conditions and intended subscription with the person responsible for the integration when the difference remains unclear. Avoid inferring payment or access from the code's existence.

For the configuration sequence, return to Create a promo code.
