Find a reader
Find the intended person before inspecting their memberships or transactions. For this example, City Journal is looking for Alex Rivera, whose fictional email is alex.rivera@example.com.
Before you begin
Check the publication/resource shown in the Admin header. It should be City Journal. Confirm your Admin access if you cannot find the publication or Audience; Before you set up your publication explains those checks.
Audience results and the opened reader record use the selected publication's context. A search here is not a search across every publication.
Search and open the reader
- Select Audience in the left navigation.
- Select Clear All to remove filters left from a previous search.
- In Global filter, enter alex.rivera@example.com. This field searches reader names and email addresses. You can use a name if you do not know the email.
- Select Apply and wait for the results below the filters to load.
- Compare the displayed full name and email with the person you intend to find. Do not assume the first result is the right person.
- Open the matching row using its linked ID in the first column.
The record opens with that reader's account details. Confirm the email and name again, then use Understand a reader's record to choose what to inspect.
Distinguish similar names
Two readers can have similar names. Use the displayed email to distinguish them, and keep the row's reader ID with your support notes so a colleague can locate the same record.
The Global filter is not an exact-name or exact-email lookup. Review the returned records rather than treating a search match as proof of identity.
Use filters for a broader lookup
If you are locating readers by company or subscription rather than one known email, start with Clear All, choose the relevant filter and select Apply. Show advanced filters reveals more options, including subscription date ranges.
Entering a nonempty Global filter starts a fresh set of filter values. For a combined company or subscription lookup, clear Global filter first, set the intended filters and apply them together.
If no result appears
Check the spelling, confirm the selected publication, and use Clear All before trying again. A company, subscription or date filter can narrow the results and hide the reader you expect.
If you still cannot locate the reader, confirm the email they used and the intended publication with the colleague handling the request. An empty result does not prove that the person never registered. Do not create a replacement account just to make the search return a result.
